Christmas in July Blog Hop

Hi Fellow Quilters,

Welcome to the Christmas in July blog hop!  Thank you to Carol from Just Let Me Quilt for organizing the hop.  We’re very excited to share our quilt project with you, and to see what everyone else has been making, just in time for Christmas (in July)!  You’ll find the blog hop schedule, with links that make it easy for you to “hop” to all of the participating blogs, at the end of our post.  Enjoy!

Houston’s summer heat and humidity can be brutal, and so it seems a little strange to be thinking about Christmas when it is so hot outdoors.  So, to get myself into a Christmas frame of mind, I like to listen to Christmas songs while I’m stitching.  Here’s one of my favorites, to help you get into the mood too:

Susan and I decided that it would be fun to make a tree skirt pattern for Christmas this year, as a nice change from our usual wall quilts!  I fell in love with the little Victorian Mouse family that Susan designed for our “Christmas Caroling Row Along” in 2017, so we decided to use our Mouse family applique design as a starting point for this year’s pattern.  We added a few more mice, a couple of lovely Victorian homes, a bit of landscaping, and a cute Victorian snowman, and here it is!

I had a load of fun stitching up these cute little mousies, choosing the just-right pieces of fabric for their clothing!  Here’s a closer view of my Christmas caroling Mouse family, as they sing the joy of the holiday season.

 

 

And what would a Christmas celebration be without a beautiful tree to decorate?  The Mouse children have chosen a lovely specimen, and are bringing it home on their sled.

The Mouse teens enjoy shopping for Christmas gifts, amid the hustle and bustle of the city streets!  They’ve found the perfect presents, and have gift-wrapped them beautifully.  I wonder what’s inside!  We’ll just have to wait until Christmas morning to find out. . .

There’s no place like home for the holidays!  The Mouse family and their neighbors live in these pretty Victorian homes, which have been “painted” in typical Victorian color combinations.

  3. I like your Victorian mouse tree skirt. A very, nice unique look. I read your stories and love them. I like how your quit competing and began working together. I can understand the science teacher engineer mentality – I was a computer programmer and I am a perfectionist about everything quilting. I have no artistic ability so I admire both of yours creativity and artistic ability – you rock.

  6. Hi Ladies! Your tree skirt is so very nice! We actually made a cross-stitch one very similar with Victorian houses, and Sue’s mom enjoys it each year. Making a tree skirt of the holidays is a great idea. One friend makes that as a wedding gift for each new couple – I think that’s a great idea and unique as a gift. Happy Thursday! ~smile~ Roseanne

I’m a huge lover of carolers, so your tree skirt and characters have me dreaming of sweet mice decorating my home at Christmas…I love them and how adorable they are! Thanks for sharing your tree skirt and for hopping along with us. You both rocked this project!

  9. The mice are adorable and remind me of a ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ machine embroidered book I made – it, too, had mice center-stage. Perfect for the Christmas holiday season.

  15. I “mouse” say…your tree skirt is just too cute. Love those little faces…well the fabric ones anyway. Prefer to not have the real little faces in my house! LOL!!!
