UFO Sightings!

Hi Quilting Friends,

I’ve had a busy first quarter, but I managed to find the time to finish the first of my UFO projects!  As you saw in my previous UFO post, I have LOADS of projects from which to choose.  For this quarter, I decided to finish the project that I was most excited about making.

Project #1: “Gnome for the Holidays”

Sharon's Gnome for the Holidays Quilt

The pattern for this quilt was offered as a 2018 Block of the Month by Sindy Rodenmeyer from FatCat Patterns, and I fell in love with it.  I faithfully visited Sindy’s website each month, and then appliqued my block before the next one became available.  I also joined Sindy’s FaceBook group so I could see the great projects that other quilters around the world were making with the BOM patterns.   It was like a virtual quilting bee, and I really enjoyed participating!

I used a pretty, low-contrast, cream print (from my fabric stash) for my block backgrounds, and chose the beautiful red and green plaid (also in my stash) for the borders.  The applique pieces were scraps from my collection too.  I even had a nice big piece of fabric for the backing.  The only fabric that I needed to purchase was the intense red solid that I used for the sashes and binding.

I just love how this project turned out, and I’m happy to have it finished in plenty of time for Christmas 2019!  My husband might disagree, but I don’t think that it is possible to have too many cozy Christmas quilts.  So, I’m calling “dibs” on this one!

What’s next?  We’ll see!  I have two very strong contenders:

  • A pieced pickle dish table topper
    • Needs to be quilted
    • Needs a binding
  • A stained glass-style wall hanging that features a dragonfly
    • I have the pattern and fabric gathered
    • Nothing else has been done, yet

Which project would you choose to do next?  Maybe I should take a poll here to help me reach a decision!  Leave a comment & help me out here, please!

Do you have a UFO that you’d like to finish in the next few months?  I’d love to hear all about it.  Thanks for joining me today!

Happy quilting,

Sharon

  1. Finish the table topper. It will be done quicker and you’ll feel so good. My UFO for March is a MSQC double slice, that I pieced about half the blocks as a mirror image of what they should be. Frogger time coming up. Thankfully there will be lots of TV time coming up with college basketball tournaments starting. Love those ladies games.

    1. You’re probably right, Sue. I’m a bit unsure about binding it, as it has both curved parts and inside corners, but I’ll figure it out. Good luck on your frogging; not fun, but it works well with TV viewing.
