My favorite quilt block

We’re excited to be included, and we hope that you’ll be inspired by the blocks and projects that you’ll see during the hop. We’ve been having a lot of fun lately with our version of the traditional “Wild Goose Chase” block, shown below:

We both just love how the look of the block can change when we use different combinations of fabrics. And look how nicely this block combines with other trational pieced blocks to make interesting secondary patterns, as you can see on our “Blue and More Blue” quilt:

Susan’s idea for a new king-sized quilt for her bed inspired her to design several additional quilt patterns because she found so many great traditional blocks that would coordinate with the Wild Goose Chase block. Her quilt features Moda’s “Kansas Troubles” fabric line. Here’s a picture of one section (out of five) of her quilt-in-progress:

Now take a look at the “Pieces of Christmas” quilt. Susan used the blocks from her king-sized quilt to make a smaller quilt in traditional Christmas fabrics. Isn’t it pretty!

And here’s a close-up picture of the “Wild Goose Chase” block from Susan’s “Pieces of Christmas” quilt. Notice how the block’s appearance changes by varying the fabrics that she used:

This is the “Wild Goose Chase” block that Sharon is using in her “Black & White Delight” quilt. The pattern will be available in November, and we’re having a Quilt Along, starting in January.       Please join us on our black and white adventure! Sharon is actually running the quilt along, but I couldn’t let her have all the fun, so I am making my own twin-sized black and white quilt.

    1. Thank you for your sweet comment, Carol! The Blue and More Blue was lots of fun to make! People have a hard time believing that it was entirely pieced in 3 1/2 days! We are incorporating all of the speed piecing that we have learned along the way!

  6. This Wild Goose Chase block is great and looks awesome with all the other blocks! I really love that Christmas quilt using it!

    1. Thank you, Brenda! I’m loving these pieced quilts! I always hesitated to make quilts with flying geese because they were so time-consuming, but Sharon and I have learned some tricks and the Christmas quilt took only 3 days to piece!

  16. I love a block that takes on different looks with a change of color or fabric! This is another block that I need to make…probably a dozen or more!
