PHD in 2021 May Update

Hi Quilting Friends,

May is always a whirlwind of activity for me, with the school year coming to an end tomorrow! (I can’t believe that it’s tomorrow!) There are grades to finalize, classroom treasures to be packed away, science equipment and supplies to reorganize, and a myriad of paperwork to complete and turn in. The end of the school year is bittersweet; I can’t wait to begin the summer break, but it is hard to say goodbye to “my” kids. I really do teach the best students in our school, and I’ll miss seeing them.

Here’s my PHD 2021 update for May!

Project #1: Make the “Southwest Critters” Quilt
SW Critters Fabric by Ms P Designs USA

All ready to quilt! I’ve added a pieced strip to the back, since the quilt top was wider than my fabric, and the binding is ready to use. I’m planning to quilt it at Susan’s house, as I usually do for our wildlife quilts. I look forward to some “sister time”, since we hang out and have a nice visit while I quilt.

Project #7: Make a throw with my “Diamond Star” blocks
Diamond Star Blocks by Sharon @ Ms P Designs USA

This project has remained stalled for nearly a year, and I finally realized why. My task list says “Make more blocks“, and I need 41 more blocks for the design that I’m planning. That’s a LOT of blocks to sew, so it’s no wonder that I haven’t managed to cross that step off my to-do list! I’m going to break it down into smaller steps of “Make 5 blocks“, which will allow me to see my progress, thus encouraging more progress. Does that make sense? I probably won’t finish the project this year, but if I can get some of the blocks stitched then I’m fine with that idea.

Project #13: Mariner’s Star table runner and place mats

All done! This project was my “One Monthly Goal” for May. I still need to finish writing up the pattern, which will be released for purchase soon. Have I mentioned how much I love this project? Here’s a photo-

Project #18: Finish the “Monster Mashup” quilt

Now that I have fabric for the quilt back, I’m thinking about how I want to quilt this one. I have plenty of time before Halloween to get it finished, so I’m not in any hurry.

New Projects

Born to be Wild Blog Hop

I made this colorful “Poison Dart Frog” mug rug for the “Born to Be Wild” blog hop:

I’ve started making a set of six “Mariner’s Star” place mats, in the colorway shown here, to keep for myself. We recently purchased a new kitchen table and chairs, so it’s time for some new place mats too! I have the stars all pieced, and I recently purchased more fabric to make the borders, binding, and back. My June “One Monthly Goal” is to finish piecing the place mats. To be continued. . .

RSC 2021

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge color of the month for May was RED. I made two more Sawtooth Star blocks, one with white background and one with gray –

And eight string blocks from my little RED scraps-
