April PHD Update

Hi Quilting Friends,

May is here, which means that the end of the school year is getting closer. I always have mixed feelings about May. I’m excited for summer with time to relax and play, but I’ll miss “my kids” when they graduate and leave for their next adventures.

We said goodbye to our beloved Rowdy on April 4. I miss his happy greetings, his endless mooching, his sweet kisses, his handsome face, and his excellent photobombing skills. We will probably adopt another dog, eventually, but we’re not ready yet. Rowdy will be a hard act to follow.

PHD in 2022 Progress

Project #2: “A Time to Play” Wall Hanging

April was “a time to quilt”, and so I’ve started stitching around the edges of the applique pieces with the smoke-toned thread that I liberated from Susan. There are SO many little pieces here, and it will take several more sewing sessions to stitch around all of them! My “One Monthly Goal” for May is to finish quilting and binding “A Time to Play”.

Project #3: “Swamp Thang” Nursery Quilt

Susan has drawn the four alligator applique blocks, and I’ve finished tracing their parts onto fusible webbing. This little quilt will be SEW much fun to make! No photo or sneak peek yet, as there’s not much to see at this stage.

Project #7: RSC 2021 String Block Quilt

And it’s a wrap! (Well, actually, it is a quilt. A sparkling finished quilt.) I quilted along each edge of the black diagonals, and then I used my binding leftovers for the scrappy binding. I’m keeping this one for my new quilting studio’s seating area, because I really love it. It is so colorful, cheerful, and cozy!

Project #14: Crayon Box Scrappy Quilt

Ta-done! My “One Monthly Goal” for April was to add the scrappy binding to this beauty, and it’s alll done. In case you wonder, the “Crayon Box” pattern is a free pattern from Bonnie Hunter. I modified the instructions a bit and used 2″ strips instead of 2.5″ strips. Here’s a photo of my finished quilt, in all of its glory-

New Projects

I have started planning and collecting fabrics for my project to show in the “Foodie” blog hop in late May. I shall remain mysterious for now.

Ongoing Projects

The #RSC2022 color for April was PINK! I don’t use a lot of PINK in my quilting projects, but I did the best that I could with the scraps I have. Here’s what I made with my PINK fabric scraps-

I made 32 little chain blocks this month, which brings my total to 92 of the 310 blocks that I’ll need for the project.
