Hi Quilting Friends,
Welcome to the “For the Birds” Sew It Show It challenge, and a big “Thank you!” to our friend Joan, who is our host. We hope that you’ll enjoy seeing how we’ve interpreted this challenge-
“Angry birds, crazy birds, whimsical birds, or flying geese. If it’s a bird, this is their time to show their colors.”
Here’s a sampling of “projects past”, all available in Ms P’s Pattern Shop. Many of our themed baby quilt patterns feature birds, as they play important roles in every ecosystem.
Today we have not just one, but two new bird-themed projects to share!
The first project is our “Great Blue Turaco” applique, featured on our “Congo!” quilt pattern. These amazing birds are native to the tropical rainforests in Africa. Sharon visited the “Moody Gardens Rainforest Pyramid” a couple of summers ago, and was thrilled to meet the Great Blue Turaco, up close and in person. He even posed for a photo op, displaying his plumage to best advantage-
This guy was totally the boss of the bird feeder, chasing away the other birds who had the audacity to approach. Susan’s design does a wonderful job of capturing both the plumage and personality of this colorful bird.
Our second project is a pair of pieced “Flying Goose” hot pads that Sharon stitched up from scraps. Each hot pad has eight flying goose units, as you can see, made from scraps of aqua, lime, and royal blue with charcoal gray solid “wings”.
The hot pads were a quick project, and made a nice Father’s Day gift for Mr. Fix-It, who is is the head chef at Sharon’s house. Mr. Fix-It’s hot pads have been looking a bit tired and faded, so this pretty pair will serve well to replace them.
So that’s us for today. We hope that you’ve enjoyed reading about how we interpreted the “For the Birds” challenge. Please leave a comment; it makes our day! Keep on reading to find the list of today’s participating bloggers. Until next time,
Sharon & Susan

That Great Blue Turaco is an unusual looking bird, but beautiful. The block of him is so cute, as is your Congo quilt. I love how you two recreated the animals in your typical creative style! Thanks for flying with us today!
