Hi Quilting Friends,
As promised, I’ve taken some time to create a list for my PHD in 2025. My goal for this year will be to complete at least twelve of the projects from my list, along with all of the new projects that I start this year.
If you’ve missed the introduction post for “PHD in 2025”, find it HERE.
This is my PHD list for 2025, broken down into tasks for those projects that are currently well-defined. (I’ll add the tasks for my other projects as they develop. I promise that I have most of the materials on hand for all of them!)

This is my PHD tally sheet, which will be updated as I start (and finish) new projects or complete projects from my PHD list. I may add another item or two to “Ongoing for 2025” once I make a final decision about what I want to do for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year.

Look at the “Introduction” post for downloads of both list templates.
Project #1 – Star Party Sampler

I stitched “Star Party Sampler” for our 2023 quilt-along, but it remains unquilted. I’ve been working on my free-motion quilting moves, and feel confident that I will be happy with my skill level for a finish in 2025.
Project #2 – Lone Star Quilt

I made the Lone Star quilt about 25-30 years ago, and then started quilting it during 2024. I didn’t have time to finish it up, so I’m hoping that 2025 will be the year that I finally take it over the finish line!
I should really get busy with this project, since I prefer to hand-quilt when the weather is cool, and it will be too hot to much too soon!
Project #3 – Old Town Mystery Scrap Quilt

Do I have scraps? You betcha! This project is a mystery (literally), and I’m excited about seeing what it is that I’m making since it is my first mystery quilt adventure. (You can find the clues for Bonnie Hunter’s mystery quilt HERE.) I’ve started sewing the units, completing each clue as it is released, and I’m having fun with it.
My scrap bins are (figuratively) bursting at the seams, and this quilt requires a bit more than twelve yards for just the quilt top. Will I notice a difference when I’ve finished? We shall see. . .
Project #4 – Autumn Throw Quilt

I purchased this beautiful array of hand-dyed fat eighths (Right) at Quilt Festival several years ago, and then I added the fabulous autumn print (Left) to my stash last time I went to Montana for a visit.
I have a vision in my brain of a lovely jewel-toned autumn throw quilt with appliqued leaves and pieced star blocks, made from these gorgeous pieces of fabric. I’d like to have it finished by mid-summer, so there’s plenty of time to create a pattern for Ms P’s Pattern Shop before autumn arrives.
Project #5 – Christmas Place Mats

I designed and created the two sets of Christmas place mats, shown above, in 2023.
I plan to develop a new design that coordinates with them, and then make another set of four place mats. I have an idea in my head and fabric in my stash to make it happen. I’ve even done a preliminary fabric pull, although the design drawings are far from finished.
Project #6 – New FPP Designs

Each year I design a few more FPP blocks. Sometimes I add new vehicles to complement the fleet of vehicle patterns in Ms P’s Pattern Shop. (The image above shows the new designs from 2024.) Sometimes I’m inspired to design other things. (My previous designs include a set of tools, coffee mugs, tea cups, and wonky blocks.)
I’ll use scraps and stash to stitch them up after I’ve created the newest designs for 2025. Let me know if you have any requests for new FPP designs; I’m always open to suggestions.
Project #7 – Design for Ms P’s Pattern Shop, TBA

Inspiration awaits upon the shelves of my studio! I enjoy creating new designs for Ms P’s Pattern Shop, so I’ll be inspired by my fabric collection. I have a few ideas already!
Projects #8 – #11 – Scrappy Projects

As I have mentioned, I have LOADS of scraps available for creating things! For each of these four goals, I’ll choose a project that will be made primarily from scraps. (I’m that serious about reducing the amount of scraps in my studio!).
Project #12 – Clothing Item from Stash
I’ll use some of my stash fabric to create a piece of clothing for myself. (This is somewhat more challenging than making pajama pants for Mr. Fix-It.) I used to sew nearly all of my clothing, so this could be fun if I can get the fit right.
Projects #13 – #14 – Play with “Toys”
I have “toys” in my studio that I haven’t played with (yet), so these projects will be created using some of those “toys”, using fabrics from my stash (or scraps). I’ll add more details once decisions are made!
Project #15 – SAHRR 2025

I’ve wanted to join in with the “Stay at Home Round Robin” since Gail at Quilting Gail began hosting it several years ago, but the pace of the weekly clues was too much to handle while I was teaching high school sciences full-time.
Now that I’ve retired I can finally fit SAHRR 2025 into my schedule, and I’m excited to play along. I’ll just dig around in my scraps and stash for fabrics to use. (Heaven knows I have plenty to work with in my studio!)
My “One Monthly Goal” for January is to make (or choose from the orphan block drawer) my center block and complete the first round of SAHRR. Ready, set, SEW!

Good luck with your PHD this year. I didn’t do the SAHRR till I retired, a clue a week is a lot to keep up with when you are working. Looking forward to seeing what you create.
