Hi Quilting Friends,
My “One Monthly Goal” for June was to quilt the Christmas Tree place mats. Ta-done, and we’re here today to celebrate!

I decided to stitch the same edge-to-edge quilting design that I used for the gift boxes and ornaments place mats that I made a couple of years ago. We struggled for a while with repeated “broken thread” errors until we found that Rosie hadn’t been threaded correctly (my bad). A quick fix, and then Rosie was working well as she stitched out the holly and ribbons pattern. Here she is, hard at work!
This project was designed to be scrap-friendly, and I used up a LOT of my leftover Christmas fabric scraps to make the large and small foundation paper pieced trees. The only “new” fabric that I used was for the borders and backing, as well as the binding.
If you aren’t a fan of “scrappy”, you could choose just a few pretty Christmas prints to piece the trees. Red and green always make a festive combination, but if that’s not your style then choose colors that coordinate with your own holiday decor.
The binding is attached, so it shouldn’t take long to finish up the new place mats. The pattern will be available in early July.
If you like the look of the place mat set, you might also like our new coordinating Christmas table runner, which hapens to be my “Favorite Finish” for June!

The “Christmas Trees” table runner pattern is available HERE.
Thanks for visiting today! We’d love to hear from you, so drop a comment and make our day.
Happy quilting,
Sharon

It looks to me like the runner has trees from both directions – the red background behind the green trees looks like fun red tree shapes, too. Fun!

Thanks! People seated on both sides of the table can see trees that are right side up. 😊
