Hi Quilting Friends,
The Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for January is BLUE. I’ve been busy creating with my BLUE scraps this month. You can see my previous posts HERE and HERE.
Zipper Bag

I used up 160 squares of BLUE fabric scraps, each 2″ x 2″ square, to piece the outside panels for my BLUE zipper bag. Whew! According to my calculations, I used about 1 yard of scraps and stash for the outer panels and the lining of my bag, as well as some scraps of leftover batting.
I wish that I could say that the 2″ strips are gone, but I won’t lie. I still have a basket filled with BLUE scraps. Maybe I’ve discovered a phenomenon that is the polar opposite of a black hole; instead of matter disappearing, scraps spontaneously appear in my scrap bins.
I decided to use a simple diagonal grid to quilt the panels, since “fancy” quilting would disappear on this “busy” piecing. Sometimes simple is the best choice. I’m sure that opportunities for “fancy” will present themselves.
I trimmed my panels to the specified size and made my bag, following instructions from This Tutorial.

I used a navy calico from the ’80s or ’90’s for the lining, and finished it off with a navy zipper.
The bags that I make this year will become gifts for friends and family. This one will probably be flying to Montana to “live” with my Mom in a couple of weeks.
Happy quilting,
Sharon

Thank you! I will probably give them to family & friends for birthdays or Christmas. The blue bag will be for my Mom, since that’s her favorite color. 😊

Scrap bins seem to be never ending. Too bad we can’t make energy that way! Very cute bag. What a great way to use up the scraps and the older stash.

Thank you! We could do with extra energy during the current winter storm. Good thing we have lap dogs, and quilts. 😊 Ms P Designs USA

It may be simple, but the diagonal quilting really suits the bag. Looks great!
