Hi Quilting Friends,
The challenge for this week’s round, as presented by Emily @“The Darling Dogwood”, was to incorporate “Animal Kingdom” into Round 3. Read about the prompt HERE.
After a quick online search, I decided that a “migrating geese” border would be just the thing for my SAHRR project. Its an element that I haven’t used before, so I decided that it would be a fun technique to learn.
I watched a couple of online video tutorials, and then I made a couple of sketches on graph paper to help me with the size calculations. I tested it out with some scraps to make sure that I would be happy with the outcome.
I cut into my precious hand-dyes and batik scraps to make the pieces that I needed. An hour or so with the sewing machine and the iron, and voila! Two sections of my migrating geese border are completed.

My stitching time is limited for a while because my brother from Montana is currently staying with me as he heals from a recent surgery. I’m taking good care of him, and that’s almost a full-time job for the next week or so.
We’ll be heading to Montana on Valentine’s Day, where I’ll spend a few more days visiting with our parents and assisting as needed. 😉 My next post may be delayed a bit, but don’t worry. I will catch up as soon as I can.
So now I have an assortment of quilt pieces that I will need to fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, along with pieces for two more migrating geese borders if I decide to use them here. I may opt to make a table runner instead of a throw or a wall quilt, since both time and materials are in short supply this time, but that’s still up in the air. This continues to be a fun challenge, and I’m looking forward to the next prompt.
You can read more about my progress on my previous posts-
