Hi Quilting Friends,
Welcome to the “It’s a Dog’s Life” Sew It Show It challenge, hosted by our friend Carol at “Just Let Me Quilt”. Our challenge this month was to create a project that relates to dogs (or quilt blocks from the past), and then post about it. We’re excited to share our project and to see how everyone else interpreted this challenge!
We both really love dogs! Several of our quilt designs feature a parade of perky pooches-
You can find the puppy patterns (and more!) in Ms P’s Pattern Shop!
Although they really prefer dogs, Susan and her husband have taken in a kitten who was born in their back yard, fondly called “Puddy Tat”. Puddy provides security on the property, making sure that the hens don’t get out of line.
Sharon and Mr. Fix-It recently adopted two French bulldogs, Freya and Astrid. The pups have brought a lot of energy and joy to their home!

Sharon here. Prior to adopting our Frenchies, we helped a mother cat raise her family of kittens in our back yard this summer. (Yes, this was the “Summer of the Cat” for both of us!) There were five babies, and we enjoyed watching them explore and play. All of the kittens have been placed into loving fur-ever homes, and Katniss (the mother) has been spayed. She’s our outdoor cat now, protecting the yard from rodents and birds. Katniss rebuffs all of Freya’s and Astrid’s attempts to play, LOL.

During my efforts to find loving homes for Katniss’ kittens, I discovered that rescue groups and shelters have a need for kennel quilts to provide comfort for small animals (kittens, puppies, small dogs, guinea pigs, etc.) while they wait to be adopted.
These little quilts were donated to “Loving Arms Pet Placement“, a local group who helps find foster homes and fur-ever homes for animals in need. (They helped find loving homes for two of our kittens.). If you would like to help, check with your local animal shelters and pet rescue groups to learn about their specific needs.
I happened to have LOTS of scraps, small pieces of batting, and stash fabric on hand, so I ended up making seven little quilts. Click the button to purchase your pattern-
Mr. Fix-It suggests that the kennel quilts would have made excellent table mats. I plan to make several little quilts for our table, along with two larger kennel quilts for our little puppy girls’ crates.
Thank you SO much for visiting today! We hope that you’ve enjoyed reading our post. Please leave a comment; it makes our day. Keep on reading to find the list of today’s participating bloggers.
Happy quilting,
Sharon & Susan

I enjoyed seeing all your dog quilts and photos of the pooches. Some of our quilt group make dog and cat beds for the local shelters using fabric scraps for filling. It’s a worthy cause. Thanks for sharing.

What fun doggie quilts! Love your little Frenchies Sharon. Kennel quilts have long been on our radar here. My quilt group has made hundreds of them for shelters across the country. I love the pattern you have provided. Nice to change things up a bit from time to time…and use a different scrap box! LOL!!

I would love being around you two and those sweet pups and cats. I’m totally an animal lover! Your applique quilts of dogs was such a treat to look through and those mats are so thoughtful. I couldn’t pin the quilts to Pinterest, but the pups are there. Thanks for sharing, Susan and Sharon!

Love meeting all of your fur babies. We also rescued a Frenchie this summer. I’ve been making kennel quilts for the past several years with my scraps, such a rewarding filler project.
