Hi Quilting Friends,
Welcome to Day 7 of our “12 Days of Christmas” series, which also happens to be our day for the “Virtual Cookie Exchange”! Our challenge was to share something special for the holidays; it might be a cookie recipe, a project, or a Christmas tradition. We’re excited to visit everyone and see how they interpret the challenge.

Sharon here. One of my favorite things is COOKIES! I just love cookies. Well, maybe not quite as much as this guy loves cookies. . .
I also love baking cookies but I don’t bake as often these days, now that my boys are grown and gone. However, I do make an exception at Christmas time! In fact, one of our time-honored family traditions is “Cookie Day”, which is scheduled for this coming Saturday. As you can see, some of us get VERY excited about “Cookie Day”!
Here are some pictures from “Cookie Days Past”, when the kids were little-
This is the recipe that we’ve always used for our decorated cookies. We sometimes make other recipes on Cookie Day as well, but this is the traditional family recipe-

Of course, as with all traditions, there are expectations.
Rule 1- If you break a cookie, then you must eat it. Now. No exceptions. (I suspect that more than a few cookies have been deliberately broken over the years.)
Rule 2- We must listen to Christmas music while decorating cookies. You may sing along, if you like, and we don’t even care if you know all of the words or if you can carry a tune in a bucket. (We also take requests if you have a favorite Christmas song.)
Rule 3- Dancing is permitted. In fact, it is encouraged as long as you are careful to avoid dancing on the dogs. (The dogs might dance with you, if you ask them nicely.)
Rule 4- No hogging the frosting or sprinkles! Someone else might be patiently waiting for the green icing, so pass it along when you’ve finished.
Rule 5- Take home the cookies that you decorate and enjoy them later. Share some with a friend.
Rule 6- Enjoy a meal of spicy Taco Soup when our long day of cookie decorating has come to a conclusion.
We’re SEW glad that you stopped by today, and we hope that you’ve enjoyed your visit. Other than cookies, what’s your favorite Christmas sweet to make and share during the holiday season? Leave a comment; it makes our day!
Happy quilting,
Sharon & Susan

I love the cookie day! I would like to do that with my grands if they lived close by. Having taco soup to end the day sounds great too (one of my fave soups). Thanks for sharing this special time with us!

Your ‘rules’ are perfect! Actually, I think many of them are ones we all conform to though the Taco Soup is a new one. I like the recipe and know I’ll be trying it, Sounds wonderful even if there are no cookies to decorate.
