Hi Quilting Friends,
Welcome to the “Bee Kind” challenge, hosted by our friend Joan at MooseStash Quilting! We’re here today to share our project(s) and we can’t wait to see how everyone has interpreted this month’s challenge.
“September is the time to remember that a little kindness goes a long way. Share your “kind” projects. Your favorite charity project, a free online pattern or anything that shows you spread a little kindness, everywhere you go.”
Sharon here. Today I’m sharing several examples of a kind gift for someone special!
Now Presenting- The Tea Towel!
Tea towels are quick & simple to make, and it is SEW easy to personalize them when creating a unique gift.
Here are a few tea towels that we’ve made and gifted over the years –
Here are a few gifting ideas-
- “Welcome to the Neighborhood”
- Wrap a loaf of fresh-made bread in a tea towel for you new neighbors
- “Thank You” to the Hostess
- Wrap that bottle of wine or sparkling juice in a pretty tea towel as a hostess gift
- “Happiest of Holidays”
- Fold a tea towel around a bag of festive cookies or quick bread for a delicious gift
- “Welcome to Your New Home”
- Line a basket of household essentials with a tea towel to warm up that new home
- “Here Comes the Bride”
- Add a tea towel, a favorite recipe, and your gift to a pretty basket for the bride-to-be
I hadn’t intended to make three tea towels for this challenge, but I kept getting ideas!
Towel #1 – Appliqued Mushrooms

I had a few little mushroom applique pieces leftover from the “Little Mushroom” quilt that I made earlier this year. I added three mushroom appliques, along with the contrast band and border, to make this cute tea towel.
Towel #2 – Foundation Pieced Tea Kettle

This cute tea kettle is the latest addition to our “Coffee, Tea, or Me” series. I pieced the tea kettle block, and then added a rectangle to each side to increase the width. I added more fabric to the top of the tea kettle, along with the contrast band and border on the bottom of the towel.
Towel #3 – Pieced Seminole Border

I came across this pieced section of border while perusing my orphan block stack for something else, and I decided that it would be fabulous for a tea towel! (Sorry, I don’t have instructions for the piecing.) I added a bit of fabric to each end of the pieced band to make it as wide as my towel, and then finished it according to the instructions. A bit of topstitching above and below the pieced band holds everything nicely in place, even through machine washing.

Thank you! I’ve done counted cross-stitched towels in the distant past, but now I prefer to quilt instead. 😊 Ms P Designs USA
