Hi Quilting Friends,
Time to check in on those 2024 goals, as Q3 has wrapped up. A big “thank you!” to Yvonne @ quiltingjetgirl for hosting the update! Let’s see how things are going so far. . .
My Goals for 2024
Goal 1- Play With Toys
I have toys (fabric, patterns, rulers, gadgets, books, etc.) in my studio that I haven’t played with (yet). My goal was to choose a toy, play with it, and post about my project.
Update– Goal completed during Q3.
I had finished piecing all of the blocks from the “Holidays at Home” kit at the end of Q2 in June, and now the quilt is finished too. I decided to practice several new (to me) FMQ and walking-foot designs to complete the quilting. It was fun, and I’ve learned quite a lot! (Thanks to Angela Walters’ YouTube videos, which were super helpful!)

In addition I used a jelly roll that a friend gave me to make this pretty table runner, which then became a gift to them-

Goal 2- Play With Scraps

My goal was to use scraps to create at least 3 scrappy projects, and then write a post about my creations.
Update- Completed during Q1.
Of course, I have more scraps. (Maybe even more scraps than I had when I began to work on this goal. I’m not entirely sure how it happens, but that’s another story.) Here are the new scrappy projects that I’ve finished since the end of June-
Goal 3- Play With UFOs
Even though my UFO collection is much smaller than it was a few years ago, I still have a few UFO quilt tops that are waiting to be finished. My goal was to choose one of these UFOs and take it across the finish line.
Update– Significant progress.
Quilting is progressing on the Lone Star quilt. I’ll use a combination of hand- and machine-quilting, because it is a daunting task to hand-quilt through the seam allowances in those star points.

The star points are all quilted! I am still not sure that I’ll make that finish line for my Lone Star quilt this year, but it feels good to have made this much progress on a UFO that is between 20-30 years old. (Yes, I have been quilting for a LONG time! I may or may not have been a child when I started quilting, LOL.)

I’m working on machine quilting my “Black and White Delight”, made back in 2020. I have finished quilting 13 of the 15 blocks and one of the applique borders. Read more about the project HERE. Have a look at my quilted blocks, as well as part of one border!
Chances are good that I’ll be able to take “Black and White Delight” across the finish line during Q4 this year.
Goal 4- Play With Online Friends
My goal was to participate in several regularly-scheduled activities, including-
- “Sew It Show It Challenge”
- “One Monthly Goal”
- “Rainbow Scrap Challenge”
- “PHD in 2024” (I’m the host this year!)
- “#2024QuiltingQ3Check In“ (This post is my Q3 update.)
Update- Progressing as expected. You can see links to my most recent posts for each activity on the list above.
Goal 5- Play Outside
My goal was to take at least 30 minutes each day to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise. I was hoping to do this 6 out of 7 days (85.7% completion of the daily goal).
Update- Progress is on target to accomplish this goal.
According to the spreadsheet that I use as a tracker, I have met my “play outside” goal for 97.8% of the days for the third quarter, and 92.0% of the days so far in 2024.
My average daily “playing outside” time is actually closer to 1 hour, but I’m not going to alter the goal at this point. My VERY demanding personal trainers absolutely insist that I meet (or exceed) my daily “play” goals, so that has helped with motivation.

How are you coming along with your 2024 goals? Do tell! We love reading your comments.
Happy quilting,
Sharon

You have some awesome personal trainers, Sharon!! Such cuties.
