Hi Quilting Friends,
In case you haven’t heard, we’re in for a rare astronomical treat this coming week when seven planets in our solar system are aligned!
If the clouds don’t get in the way, you’ll be able to look upward and see, with your naked eye, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn all in a row across the early evening sky. (You’ll also see Earth, of course, if you look down!) Uranus and Neptune may be visible with binoculars or a telescope, if you’re lucky. As a science nerd, I’m excited about seeing this happen because it’s really cool!
As rare events go, finishing a gorgeous quilt is also pretty exciting so we’re here today to celebrate the completion of our “Star Party Sampler” quilt! You might remember this quilt from our 2023 “Star Party” quilt-along.

I have been learning how to do free-motion machine quilting with Princess Nina, my Bernina 770 QE, and I’ve had lots of fun experimenting with stitches to create interesting textures for the quilt.

And here are the individual blocks, so you can see how they shine! (They are stars, after all.)
As part of the celebration, we’re having a sale on the entire collection of Star Party quilt blocks through March 5, 2025. All of our patterns are written with step-by-step instructions (and photos of the piecing steps), using modern quick-piecing techniques. Check it out!
I hope that you’ll have a chance to go outside one evening this week and look up to the heavens. You’re sure to be inspired!
Happy quilting,
Sharon

Congratulations on the beautiful finish!! I really like the way you showcase each block in your post so we can see your quilting. It was cloudy where I live on the nights of the best planetary alignment, but we did enjoy it when we could a few days late. Did you get a good viewing? Thanks so much for linking up with Favorite Finish.

Thank you! I take our dog for a walk after dark every night, so I’ve enjoyed viewing the planets whenever the skies are clear. I loaded an app on my phone to aid in identification of the visible stars, so I’m enjoying it immensely.

What a lovely finish! It’s a great quilt to FMQ. I hope that you’ll consider linking up to Free Motion Mavericks. We’d love you to join the party 🙂

Thank you! I was a little hesitant to quilt this, since I am learning and wanted it to look good. I’m pleased with the results. 😊
