Hi Quilting Friends,
You may have noticed that I’m a little bit later than usual with this month’s update. I have a very good reason for the delay; I’ve spent the last 10 days in glorious Montana, visiting family.

It was wonderful to spend time with everyone! We visited, played games, and went hiking almost every day, and I enjoyed being at home in the mountains. Here are a few vacation photos-
And here are some pictures from the first part of July, before I went to Montana.
I made very little progress toward my PHD during July, but I am not concerned at all. There’s plenty of time to “take care of business”, now that I’m back from my travels.
Time for my July update-
Project #2 – Lone Star Quilt
My “One Monthly Goal” for July was to hand-quilt another square on “Lone Star”. Ta-done, despite lots of “help” from Katniss, Freya, and Astrid. Read more HERE.

Project #4 – Autumn Throw Quilt

I made some progress during July. I have (mostly) decided how I will quilt this one. The quilt is layered, basted, and ready for quilting. No photo today, since it’s “secret sewing” until we release the pattern.
My “One Monthly Goal” for August is to quilt “Autumn Splendor”, and maybe add the binding too. Ready? Set. Sew!

Project #8 – Scrappy Pinwheel Star Quilt
I stitched up two more Pinwheel Star blocks for my July RSC. The color for July was PURPLE, my favorite color.

My second block is PINK, since I needed to catch up now that I’ve decided to make two Pinwheel Star blocks each month. (I already had made one block each in PURPLE and PINK earlier this year.)

New Projects
Scrappy Trips 2.0
My “Scrappy Trips” quilt is finished! I decided that the quilt looked “busy” enough without a pieced border, so I opted for one solid navy border to frame the quilt. Here’s a picture of the front side-

After the top was completed, I spent a couple of days on scrap preparation, cutting up 2″ strips into 3.5″ lengths. So now my 2″ strip collection has been reduced to pieces that are less than or equal to 3.5″ long, at least at the moment.
Some of these scrap pieces were used to make the backing of the quilt wider. I alternated stacks of scrappy pieces with narrow solid navy strips, and then I added large chunks of navy print calico fabric (stash fabric, from the ’90’s) on each side of the pieced section. The binding is also navy solid. Here’s a picture of the back, where you can also see my quilting-

By my calculations, I used about 5 yards of scraps and about 3 yards of stash fabric to complete this project, which finished at 58″ x 58″.
The Glorious Basket of Scrappy Fun

The 2″ x 3.5″ scrap pieces in this basket are destined to become another scrappy quilt or two. I will enjoy thinking about the possibilities while I wait to get started. Don’t you just love this part of the quilt-making process?
I’m not going to count this as ‘new”, since the scraps aren’t a project yet. It will join the “New” list when I begin playing with the pieces. Judging by the number of remaining projects (and tasks) on my PHD list, that may be fairly soon.
Ongoing Projects
I continued stitching blocks for RSC 2025 in PURPLE!
I really like the bold PURPLE leopard print for the Rolling Stone block-

PURPLE is a great color for another FPP Coffee Mug block-

Another great month. Love all the purples. I agree, it’s not something I usually choose, but when I do, I really like it.

Scrappy Trips turned out beautifully! You have lots of pretty projects in the works. You had a good month, especially since you worked in a vacation in there. Hope August is just as productive.

Congrats on your Scrappy Trips finish, Sharon. You made progress even though you had a trip in the midst. Family is definitely more important than projects, so enjoy that time and the great memories you made. Thanks for joining us at Monday Musings. Have a great weekend.
