Hi Quilting Friends,
It’s August, and we all know what that means- Back to School! Here in the US, educators, students, and parents are getting ready for the new school year.
Educators in public schools, private schools, or in a home school setting, are on our list of “Everyday Heroes”! Today we’re celebrating educators and introducing our new whimsical “My Hero- Teachers” applique designs.

Sharon here today. As you know, I was a secondary science teacher for 25 years, until I retired in May, 2024. When August arrived, I tried to avoid thinking about how little time I had left before the new school year began. I squeezed in every last bit of summer fun, until it was time to go back to work.
It’s not that I didn’t enjoy teaching. I loved my students (most of the time), and I loved helping them understand science concepts. It’s just that it was exhausting! During the first weeks of school, I prepared my classroom and made lesson plans. I adjusted to the bell schedule, and learned all of the students’ names. I completely understand how this feels-

Teaching was never an “easy” profession, but it was mine and I (mostly) loved it. I hope that you’ll enjoy our new whimsical designs, honoring our favorite teachers.
Susan’s favorite topic in school was Social Studies & History, and she was lucky enough to have excellent teachers. Here’s our Social Studies teacher, helping her students learn to use a globe.

Sharon’s favorite topic in school was Math! She’s still a “math geek”, LOL. Here’s our Math teacher, helping her students with the basic math facts.

Almost everyone loves Science, with Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, and more! Here’s our Science teacher, helping his students understand how chemicals interact.

What’s not to love about Physical Education? There are individual sports like tennis or golf. There are team sports like basketball or volleyball. In fact, there’s a sport for anyone who likes to stay active. Here’s our Coach, helping his athletes to prepare for the big game.

The Hero Teacher blocks are really fun. You hit my favorites. This is the first year in 20 that we don’t have a child in school. It feels a bit weird.

Thank you! It still feels strange to not go back to school after so many years. I’ve spent most of my life so far in school (as a student, then as a teacher), so it’s an adjustment.
