Hi Quilting Friends,
September has been another active month in my part of the universe! Here are a few highlights-
How are you doing with your PHD list so far this year?
Are you spending lots of quality time in the quilting studio, making steady progress toward your goals? Good for you! Keep on going; each stitch brings you closer to the finish line.
Are there other activities that require your attention instead? Good for you! Keep on taking care of business; those PHD projects will wait until you have both time and energy for them.
Here’s my September update-
Project #2 – Lone Star Quilt
My “One Monthly Goal” for September was to quilt at least four of the outside edge triangles on “Lone Star”. Ta-done! Read all about it HERE.
Here’s one finished triangle section –

My “One Monthly Goal” for October is to quilt at least two of the four corner sections on “Lone Star”. Ready? Set. SEW!

Project #8 – Scrappy Pinwheel Star Quilt
The RSC color for September was pastels in BLUE and GREEN, so I stitched up two Pinwheel Stars, one in BLUE and one in GREEN.

I’m thinking about how to set my blocks together when I get ready to finish this project, but I don’t have a plan yet.
Project #11 – Scrappy Rolling Stone Quilt
This project is nearly ready for the next step. I plan to stitch one more Rolling Stone block, for October’s RSC, and then I’ll have 30 blocks in this collection. This is my 3rd year on Rolling Stones, so it’s time to make them into a quilt before they begin to gather moss. (I predict that won’t happen, as long as they keep on rolling. LOL!)
I have made a decision about how I’ll set the blocks together when the time comes, and now I’ve started adding sashes and corner stones to the finished blocks, like this-

I need to buy another piece of white-on-white print for the rest of sash pieces, so wish me luck. I won’t try to match the other sash pieces, since the blocks include a variety of white-on-white fabrics. I’m hoping that I’ll find what I need at Hobby Lobby. . .
The design wall awaits, and it will take a LOT of playing around with blocks to balance out the colors and values. What fun!
New Projects
Halloween Blog Hop Project
I’m SEW excited about “Coming Out of the Dark” with Joan from Moosestash Quilting! I’ve missed “hopping” around to see everyone’s projects.
I “liberated” a bag of Halloween fabric from Susan’s studio, and I am working on a new design to share on October 21 (our day to hop).
No hints or sneaky peeks today; you’ll need to wait and see!
Glorious Scrappy Quilt
The solid gray Kona cotton in my stash looked nice with the “Glorious Scrappy” pieced center, so I used it for my borders. Two coordinating prints from my stash made the pieced backing.
I had intended to add a picture of this work in progress, but I didn’t get it done before my laptop went away for updates. My fingers are crossed that she will be home within a couple of days.
Everything is layered and basted, so I can quilt soon. I had been waiting on my order for black thread, and it took much longer to arrive than I had expected. I ended up re-ordering and the thread is here now, but I haven’t started quilting yet. The binding will be solid gray, and it’s ready to use when the time is right.
I used about 7.25 yards of fabric from my scrap bins and stash to make this quilt, which will finish at 54″ by 54″. (The batting is leftover pieces too.)
Ongoing Projects
I continued making blocks for RSC 2025 in pastel BLUE and GREEN.

Happy quilting,

You’ve done really well with keeping things moving this year and your PHD report looks amazing. Mine doesn’t look so hot this year. Mainly because the person who was so gracious to quilt for me, retired this year. I had hoped to quilt more of my own. Still in the process of getting that figured out. Fingers crossed that gets easier next year.

Thank you! I wanted to quilt my own projects, so I spent quite a bit of time watching tutorial videos and quilting small projects until it felt comfortable. It has turned out well for me. 😊
