Hi Quilting Friends,
The RSC color for October is neutral (black, brown, gray, etc.) or whatever works to fill out a collection of blocks. Here’s what I’ve made with my scraps this month.
Rolling Stone
My Rolling Stone block for October-

I chose warm golden tans for my October block, which is a neutral color (I guess). This completes the collection of thirty blocks.
I plan to finish the “Rolling Stone” quilt this year, so you’ll be seeing progress reports as we continue.
Pinwheel Star
I opted to “pass” on neutral tones for the October “Pinwheel Star” blocks, as they don’t fit well with the “vibe” of the other blocks I’ve made.
Instead I made one block with navy scraps, to fill a gap in the blues-

My second block features lime green scraps, a nice transition between the green and yellow blocks-

Here’s the collection of 20 blocks that I’ve stitched this year. Now you can understand why “neutrals” weren’t a great fit!

I am mulling over my next steps for this collection. I have enough blocks made for a generous throw quilt, but I’d want to include something “fancy” for setting them together.
I’ll set these blocks aside for a bit while I continue to consider the options and finish up some of my other projects.
Coffee Mug
I used this lovely golden yellow stripe for my coffee mug block, since my collection seemed to beg for something bright rather than neutral.

Here’s the complete set of 2025 Coffee Mug blocks-

I’m most likely going to continue this group into next year’s RSC 2026, since there aren’t enough blocks for a quilt and my stack of table runners and place mats has been growing too large. I’ll just tuck the blocks away for now and focus on my other projects until January brings a new round of RSC color.
October is shaping up to be a busy month, with lots of activity and time for stitching too. Thanks for stopping in!
Happy quilting,
Sharon

You made some wise choices for your on going RSC projects. All of them are moving along so well.

Thank you! I have no idea what I’ll do with the quilts, but it’s fun to play with my scraps. 😊

I agree, Sharon. Neutrals would not work with the stars or cups! I really like the navy and lime stars.

Well done – with all of those blocks. I agree you didn’t need to add neutrals to the mix of those star blocks.

Thank you! I’m most comfortable with darks or brights, even though I appreciate neutrals they just aren’t my thing
