Hi Quilting Friends,
We don’t have an assigned RSC color for November. Instead of making more blocks, the challenge is to work on finishing quilts using blocks that were made for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
I have been making “Rolling Stone” blocks, one per month, since 2023. Time to make these blocks into a beautiful rainbow quilt!
I started by adding white-on-white print sashes, and black print cornerstones to each block. Since this is a scrappy quilt, I’ve used a variety of prints for both sashes and cornerstones.
My next step was to arrange the blocks on my design wall, trying out a number of layouts. I always take a photo, study it carefully, and then wait a while before moving the blocks around again.
After struggling to find a pleasing layout, I decided to change the size of the quilt. I eventually omitted five blocks to create a 5 X 5 layout. I’m not sure what I will do with the five “extra” blocks; that’s an issue for another time.

This is the layout that I’ll probably use for the quilt, unless I accidentally mix up the blocks as I’m sewing them together. (It happens.)
That’s it for today. I’ll share an update after I sew the blocks together, and with any luck I can take them outside for better lighting. My plan is to be ready for quilting by December.

Those blocks are so pretty and they work in each of the layouts, but I really like the one you chose the best. Using the black cornerstones will make those colors all pop. I’m looking forward to playing along with your PHD in 2026.

Great blocks. I have to say I too make “creative decisions” while sewing the blocks together. (Ok, they really are mistakes but I seldom fix them!) Hope you get it put together on your schedule.

Thanks! I normally just let it be when I make an oopsy, unless it involves the orientation of a directional piece. I’m confident that I can find time for a finish this year, even though I’ll be busy. 😊

Deciding a setting for a set of RSC blocks has always been one of my choke points, It takes me eons to decide on a setting. You picked a good setting and a fun layout for your blocks.
