One Monthly Goal: July 2026

Hi Quilting Friends,

My “One Monthly Goal” for July was to finish the “Cubix” table runner, which needed to be quilted and have a binding to wrap it up. Ta-done!

The runner was completely pieced using strips of fabric, which were then cut to shape with the special ruler and stitched together to make the blocks. It was easy, and my seams lined up nicely without any fuss. I used leftover strips of the gray and white solids, along with pieces of the background fabric, to make the backing.

I started quilting by stitching about 1/8″ around the pieced cubes with light gray thread, to make sure they stand out from the background. The background fabric areas are quilted with a small-scale meander, using the same light gray thread. I had a little trouble seeing my quilting, since the thread blended so well with the background fabric.  I had to revisit a few areas and add more meandering stitches to keep the quilting density somewhat even throughout the piece.

The cubes are quilted with straight echo lines, using a deep charcoal thread. The pattern that I chose wasn’t continuous, so each cube was quilted individually.  This added some time to the quilting process, but I think this choice was worth it.

I chose a flange binding, with the medium gray solid as the “main” color and the deep charcoal solid as the “accent” strip. This binding made a quick finish to the runner, since it didn’t require any hand stitching, and I like how the deep charcoal flange makes a frame around the outer edges.

I’m very happy with how my “Cubix” runner turned out. I love its sleek, modern vibe, which isn’t my “normal” style. It’s refreshing to change things up every now and then, and I enjoyed “playing with my toys”!
