Hi Quilting Friends,
Today we are introducing Mimi’s Field of Flowers, a lovely queen-sized quilt that features two different pieced blocks.
A little history first: Our local quilt shop was going out of business. (How much I miss them!) Of course I went shopping for fabrics, adding to my already immense private textile collection. Northcott Fabrics has wonderful shimmer fabrics, and I chose a whole collection of shimmering blueish-greens.
What do I make with these gorgeous fabrics? I began searching for traditional quilt blocks and found two pretty blocks that I thought flowed together very well, called “Cups and Saucers” and “Four Winds”. This quilt is what I ended up sewing for our queen-sized guest bed.

Every quilt pattern needs a great name, and I was stumped at first. Then one day I had my 10-year-old granddaughter over for a wonderful sewing day to “make a secret surprise for mommy’s graduation” . The quilt was hanging on my design board at the time, waiting for the next step in the design process.
She squinted at the quilt and announced that, when you squint at the blocks, “it looks like a field of flowers!” Voila, the quilt is named! Our granddaughter calls me “Mimi”, so “Mimi’s Field of Flowers” became the quilt pattern’s name.
Our good friend Cheri at “Time Treasured Quilts” quilted “Mimi’s Field of Flowers” with an all-over quilting design that includes leaves and more flowers. It was quilted with variegated primary colors. I love it!

Thank you for visiting and happy quilting,
Susan
