Winter Blues

Hi Quilting Friends,

Welcome to the “Shades of Blue” Sew It Show It challenge, hosted by our quilting friend Carla from “Creatin’ in the Sticks”! We’re looking forward to seeing how everyone else has interpreted this month’s challenge.

Do you ever get the winter blues? It can happen, especially when cold weather, snow, and short days keep us indoors. Let’s have some quilty fun and chase away those winter blues today! Here’s a look back at several of our “Projects Past”, all featuring loads of BLUE! If you see something that you love, you’ll find the patterns in Ms P’s Pattern Shop.

Sharon here today. I decided to use some of my pretty blue scraps and our pieced snowflake block to create a small table topper for the challenge. We’re calling it “Let It Snow!” This project was my “One Monthly Goal” for January, and I’m happy to say that it is finished.

I started by piecing four snowflake blocks for the center of the table topper. I added a flying geese border to two edges followed by a plain border of my background fabric. I appliqued snowflakes made with sparkly white fabric to the plain borders , and then quilted it. (Notice the swirly stipple around the snowflakes? Princess Nina and I gave her stitch regulator a first try, and it was super fun! We can’t wait to do it again. 😍 ) I used a bold blue fabric for the binding, matching the flying geese border. The finished table topper is a nice size for a kitchen table or end table.

If you’d like to stitch up your own version of “Let It Snow”, the pattern is available in Ms P’s Pattern Shop!
