Hi Quilting Friends,
I’ve been a bit distracted this month, due to some unexpected guests in our backyard-
There are five kittens, and they are SO adorable. Unfortunately, I’m allergic to cats and so they will all (hopefully) be moving to new loving homes when they’ve been weaned. Until then I will enjoy watching “Kitten Wrestle-Mania”, live from the back yard!
We’ve had a great summer so far, with a family gathering at Susan’s home, a trip to the lake to visit friends, and several game nights with our neighbors. I still manage time for creativity, and I love it!
PHD in 2023 Projects
Project #10 – Celebrations Throw Quilt

I have started piecing the sections of the quilt, and everything looks nice so far. No photos yet; this will become a pattern for Ms P’s Pattern Shop.
My “One Monthly Goal” for July is to finish piecing the quilt top, and have it ready to share for the “Picnic Party” Sew It Show It challenge in July. I’d really love to get it quilted & finish the binding too, but that could get a little tricky since I’ll be on vacation for almost 2 weeks during July. No promises! Ready, Set, Sew!

Project #11 Ornament Christmas Place Mats

Ta-Done! My “One Monthly Goal” for June was to quilt this set of place mats. You can read more about the quilting if you click the link above.
Project #12 Gift Box Christmas Place Mats

Also finished, with binding and everything! (Thank you Susan and Rosie!)
The “Ornaments” and “Gift Box” place mat patterns are both available in Ms P’s Pattern Shop, if you’d like to make some too.
New Projects
I designed and stitched this combine harvester block for Ms P’s Pattern Shop, and I shared it during the “When Pigs Fly” Sew It Show It challenge. This vehicle reminds me of harvest time on the farm when I was a little girl. I loved to ride on the combine with my Dad!

One of my goals for 2023 was to “play with toys”. To that end, I’ve used this pattern that I purchased several years ago at Quilt Festival to make a foundation pieced miniature Mariner’s Compass quilt. Here’s my initial fabric pull, all from my stash-

And here’s the finished quilt! It is 17″ x 17″, with 280 pieces. I had fun stitching it.

Mr. Fix It and I went shopping at the mall recently, looking for new clothes for me. (I abhor shopping, except at the quilt shops, the garden center, and the hardware store, so I was there under duress.) At any rate, considering current pricing and the lack of ready-made clothes that I would actually be willing to wear, I decided to put my sewing skills to work. I stitched up this sleeveless blouse using some yardage from my stash, and I’m pleased with how it came out-

I have a second blouse from the same pattern started, since this fits well. I used to sew most of my clothes, but I stopped making clothing when I started teaching school.
Ongoing Projects
The “Rainbow Scrap Challenge” color for June was light BLUE.
Rolling Stones
Here’s my BLUE Rolling Stone block, not so light but I like it!

Carolina Chains
I made ten more BLUE Carolina Chains –

Here’s a photo of the new large blocks that I stitched this month-

Progress Update
Here’s my updated task list for June –

And here’s my updated PHD tally for June –

Happy quilting,
Sharon
You go, girl – only one UFO left to make your PHD!! I just love that Mariner’s Compass quilt, but 280 pieces, oh my! You haven’t lost your garment sewing skills. The blouse looks great. Your table runner and the Christmas placemats are so pretty! You had a great month!

The Mariner’s Compass–😍😍. I hate clothes shopping too. Nothing ever fits me correctly. I’m seriously considering trying to sew clothes this month. I need to study pattern fitting first.

Thank you! I was pleased when the blouse fit well. It helped to take measurements from another one that I already have, so I could adjust the pattern and make it work for me. Good luck with your sewing! 😊 Ms P Designs USA

Thanks Joy! I will miss the kittens after they have gone to that forever homes, but keeping them is out of the question. If you lived close to me, I would gladly give you pick of the litter. 😼

WOW! You’ve only got 3 more UFOs to go for your PHD!!!! Good for you and I love those kitties!!! Have you found any homes for them yet? At quilt club this month there was another person with five kitties that are almost ready for their fur-ever homes. See you soon for the July Wrap-Up!

Thanks Sue! Two of the kitties have been adopted, and the others are tearing up my flowers, LOL. I enjoy them, but hope they will have fur-ever homes soon.
