Hi Quilting Friends,
Sharon here. I set a few goals for 2023, way back in December. Now that we have passed the midpoint of 2023, it’s time to have a look at how I’m doing with my goals.

Here goes!
Goal #1: Play with the toys
My goal was to choose a toy (or two), play with it, and then show & tell about what I’ve made.

Update – Mischief managed.

This pattern packet has been hiding out on a shelf in my studio. The copyright says 2006, and I recall purchasing it at Houston Quilt Festival several years ago. I’ve had the fabrics on hand in my stash for a while too, and I was happy to find everything that I needed for my little quilt on hand. (Technically, this project works for Goal #2 as well.) Here’s the finished (and fabulous!) quilt-

Goal #2: Use the scraps & stash
My goal was to use scraps and stash fabrics to complete at least three more scrappy projects.

Update– Mischief managed, and more! Nearly everything that I’ve created so far this year has been made from my scraps & stash (or from Susan’s stash since I’m helping her with stash management, LOL). Here’s a little slideshow with the finished projects that I’ve made from my scraps and stash fabrics so far this year-
Goal #3: Finish one of those BIG quilts
My goal was to choose one of the quilts from the slideshow below to take all the way to the finish line in 2023!
Update – No progress so far.
I have yet to make a choice, but I’m not going to allow myself to feel bad about it considering the fact that I still have nearly 6 months in which to complete this goal. When I’m ready, I plan to take my quilt top to Susan’s studio and use Rosie (her Gammill longarm) to complete the quilting. (sister time + quilting fun = goal completed)
Goal #4: Play with online quilting friends
My goal was to continue “playing” with online quilting friends for the following activities –
- Monthly blog hops with Carol and Joan
- PHD in 2023 with Gail
- #RSC2023 with Angela
- One Monthly Goal with Patty
- 2023 Goal Setting with Yvonne (this post)
Update – On track.
I’ve participated in all of these online activities, and posted about them each month or as appropriate. My links to the most recent posts are shown above. I enjoy the sense of community with other online quilters.
Goal #5: Get to know Princess Nina
My goal was to become acquainted with my new Bernina 770 QE Plus, “Princess Nina”, as I create my projects. (Isn’t she lovely!)

Update – Considerable progress.
I’ve used many of Princess Nina’s special features, including her stitch regulator, her various presser feet, her 1/4″ seam guide, and some of her decorative stitches. I’ve kept up with her routine maintenance of cleaning and oiling her after each big project, and I even learned how to reset and realign Princess Nina when she became disoriented and all of her buttons stopped working. (Whew!)
There’s still a lot more that I can learn; I just need to decide what skills I want to focus on next. Perhaps I’ll choose another FMQ pattern to expand my repertoire beyond echoing, stippling, meandering, and loopy-loops. (Sew much fun!). Look at these lovely FMQ feathers that Princess Nina and I stitched-

How are you doing with your 2023 goals? Do tell! I love reading your comments.
Happy quilting,
Sharon

You’ve made great progress, Sharon, and especially all those projects using your stash! Keep up the great work! I know work will get busy for you soon.

Thanks Brenda! I have a little more than a month before I’m back to work, so I intend to use the time to relax & enjoy life. 😊 Ms P Designs USA
