Hi Quilting Friends,
Where did the year go? I can’ believe how quickly it has flown, but here we are again. Before I jump into goals for 2024, let’s review my goals for 2023.
My Goals for 2023
Goal #1: Play with the toys
My goal was to choose a toy (or two), play with it, and then show & tell about what I’ve made.
Update – Mischief managed. I used fabric from my stash and a pattern that I bought years ago to meet this goal. Here’s the finished (and fabulous!) quilt-

Goal #2: Use the scraps & stash
My goal was to use scraps and stash fabrics to complete at least three more scrappy projects.
Update– Goal completed, and more! Here’s a little slideshow with the finished projects that I’ve made from my scraps and stash fabrics this year-
Goal #3: Finish one of those BIG quilts
My goal was to choose one of my larger UFO quilts to take all the way to the finish line in 2023.
Update – Ta-done! I chose my “Diamond Star Flower” quilt to finish this year. You can read all about the finish in this post, and here it is in all of its glory!

Goal #4: Play with online quilting friends
My goal was to continue “playing” with online quilting friends for the following activities –
- Sew It Show It Challenges
- PHD in 2023
- #RSC2023
- One Monthly Goal
- 2023 Goal Setting(this post)
Update – Yep. I’ve participated in all of these online activities. My links to the most recent posts are shown above. I enjoy the sense of community with other online quilters and the inspiration that they provide.
Goal #5: Get to know Princess Nina
My goal was to become acquainted with my new Bernina 770 QE Plus, “Princess Nina”, as I create my projects. (Isn’t she lovely!)

Update – Considerable progress. I’m totally in love with Princess Nina, and I know that I’ll continue to explore her features and discover even more fabulous things that she can do. She’s probably ready by now for a spa day, so I’ll schedule that soon.
My Goals for 2024
Goal 1- Play With Toys
I have toys (patterns, rulers, gadgets, etc.) in my studio that I haven’t played with (yet). My goal is to choose a toy, play with it, and post about my project.
Goal 2- Play With Scraps
I’ve been creating projects with my scraps for several years now, but the collection is still extensive. My goal is to use scraps to create at least 3 scrappy projects, and then write a post about my creations.

Goal 3- Play With UFOs
Even though my UFO collection is smaller than it was a few years ago, I still have a small stack of larger UFO quilts. My goal is to choose one of these larger UFOs and take it across the finish line.
Goal 4- Play With Online Friends
I enjoy interacting with the quilting friends that I’ve made online, so I’ll continue to participate in several regularly-scheduled activities, including-
- “Sew It Show It Challenge”
- “One Monthly Goal”
- “Rainbow Scrap Challenge”
- “PHD in 2024” (I’ll be hosting this year!)
- “Planning Party”
Goal 5- Play Outside
There’s more to life than quilting, and I really enjoy playing outside when I’m not in the studio or at work. My goal is to take at least 30 minutes each day to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise. I made myself a little spreadsheet to use as a tracker, since I already know that I’m motivated by shading little cells. I have several options-
- Walk with my husband and/or our dogs
- Walk (faster and further) on my own
- Putter in the garden (yes, that’s exercise!)
- Bike the trails in our neighborhood
- Swim laps (when the pool is open)
- Clean the house (Ugh! Not outdoors, but still excercise)
You’ll probably have noticed that each goal this year starts out with “Play”. There’s a reason for that, but I won’t divulge it until June.
How did you do with your 2023 goals? What plans do you have for 2024? Do tell! I love reading your comments.
Happy quilting,
Sharon
