Hi Quilting Friends,
Happy Holidays! We hope that you’ve had a blessed holiday season, with time to relax, reflect, and recharge.
We’ve had a very festive December! I’ve decked the halls, and Mr. Fix-It has beautifully lit up the outside of the house. We don’t have snow in Houston, so we make up for it with outdoor lighting!

We traveled to San Antonio to enjoy the lights on the Riverwalk and to make tamales & Christmas cookies with Gaby and her family. (The tamales were delicious!)
We got together at my house for our annual family “Cookie & Baking Day”, which was a lot of fun of course.

Susan’s daughter hosted the family Christmas celebration, where we enjoyed dinner and exchanged gifts.
I haven’t done a thing with my PHD list this month, and I don’t even care. I had a few projects that I wanted to make for Christmas gifts, so that was my focus instead of PHD (along with the aforementioned festivities). Instead of a December update, this is a 2024 recap to celebrate a successful year of finishing projects to earn a PHD! Here we go-
Project #1- Carolina Chain Scrap Quilt

Ta-done! The blocks for this scrappy beauty were made for the “Rainbow Scrap Challenge” in 2022 and 2023. Are my scrap bins depleted? Hardly!
Find Bonnie Hunter’s pattern HERE.
Project #2- Black & White Delight Quilt

I’m delighted to say that “Black and White Delight” is complete. I practiced my FMQ skills and finished up this project from 2020.

The pattern is available HERE!
Project #3- Lone Star Quilt

After (at least) 25 years as a UFO, I’ve started quilting this lovely Lone Star! I wasn’t able to take this project across the finish line this year, so it will join my 2025 PHD list.
Project #4- “It Moose Be Love” Challenge Project

All wrapped up! Read about it and find the pattern HERE.

Project #5- “April Showers” Challenge Project

“Ride ‘Em Cowboy”, a baby quilt for Jeremy and Holly’s little boy who was born in May, has been rounded up. Read about it & purchase the pattern HERE.
Project #6- Something Smells Fishy Sew It Show It Challenge

F is for Fish, and Finished! This cute little fish table topper pattern is available in Ms P’s Pattern Shop. Read about it and find the pattern HERE.
Project #7- Gnome for Thanksgiving Sew It Show It Challenge
No gnomes here, but my gnomes were absolutely giddy about how this project turned out. Read about it and find the pattern HERE.

Project #8- Mint & Chocolate Batik Quilt

Ta-done! The pattern for the scrappy Hunter’s Star quilt is available HERE.

Project #9- FPP Vehicles from Scraps

It’s a wrap! Vehicle patterns are available in Ms P’s Pattern Shop. Read about them HERE.
Project #10- Katniss’s Nap Quilt

All done; I made this little quilt from orphan blocks, scraps, and stash fabrics to shield the chair from kitty hair. Katniss says that it’s purrrr-fect.

Project #11 – Blue Ridge Mountain Star Topper

Finished, in time for July Fourth! The pattern is available HERE.

Project #12- Black & White Frankenbag

Ta-done! I used the tutorial from Agile Jack to make my scrappy bag.
Project #13 – Home for the Holidays Kit

Finished! I received the kit from a friend, and then used this project as an opportunity to practice my FMQ skills. I learned a lot of new “moves” as I completed the quilting, and I have taken several naps beneath the quilt this season.

#14- Bento Box Table Runner
I created this fun table runner as a gift for my friends, using a jelly roll that I received from them. They loved it!

New Projects
I finished up my scrappy Christmas quilt, which was my “One Monthly Goal” for December. The Bonnie Hunter pattern is HERE. (I still have a fairly large bag of Christmas fabric scraps left over, and this is the fifth lap-sized quilt that I’ve made with Christmas fabrics. Will the scraps ever run out???). This quilt was a Christmas gift for my comadre (Gaby’s mom, Anna).

I sewed flannel pajama pants for Mr. Fix-It, a Christmas gift to him every year.

I stitched up a travel bag for our older son, Ian, although he doesn’t travel often. He can use it for game piece storage or whatever he wants. I also made a travel bag for Mr. Fix-It’, and loaded it up with his favorite products (in small sizes). This should make it easier for him to pack up and hit the road for more adventures with me.

I’ve started stitching units for Bonnie Hunter’s new mystery quilt, “Old Town”. Clues 1 through 4 are finished. This is the first time that I’ve made a mystery quilt, and I’m pretty excited to find out what it will become.
PHD Progress
No changes on my PHD list this month, so here’s my PHD task list as it was in November.

Here’s my PHD tracker for 2024, with at least 12 finished projects from my PHD list and 0 unfinished new projects, indicating that I have earned my PHD in 2024. (Cue the confetti! 🎉)

Time to share your December update! Add your link and then check out the other linked posts to comment, encourage, and celebrate. We can’t wait to see what you’ve been stitching. 😊
We would appreciate a link back to this post as well. Copy and paste the link below to make it easy on yourself!
We hope that you will consider joining us for “PHD in 2025”! Look for the introductory post and goal-setting link, right here on January 1. Here’s the new logo, if you want to add it to your blog. We would love to cheer you on as you work on your PHD in 2025!

Happy quilting,
Sharon

You’ve had a wonderful year, Sharon!! And you did get that PHD completed…plus!! Congratulations! Time with family is much more important than quilting IMO!! Life is short and we must enjoy the time together when we can! Happy New Year!
