Hi Quilting Friends,
Welcome to the “April Showers” Sew It, Show It Challenge, hosted by our friend Joan at “MooseStashQuilting”. Our challenge this month-
“Late snow showers, rain showers, baby showers, wedding showers. What do you like to shower everyone with?”
Sharon here. The prompt made me think of this favorite old movie-
I’d guess that Gene Kelly was soaked to the skin by the end of this number, LOL!
Today’s post isn’t about singin’ in the rain, or even rain showers, although that’s a fairly common occurrence in Houston during April. We’re celebrating babies today, and showering them with quilts!
Susan’s friend Lauren from work recently had a baby boy named Owen, so Susan wrapped up this cute baby BOY elephant quilt for the baby shower. (Click the image to grab the pattern, or read about it HERE!)
We have another elephant quilt pattern that features flowers, if you need a baby GIRL quilt-
Nathan’s long-time friend (Jeremy) is going to be a daddy again in June. I’m really happy for Jeremy and his wife Holly, so I made a quilt for their little baby BOY! The baby shower was this past weekend, and they LOVED their gift.
I call it “Ride ‘Em Cowboy”! The pattern is definitely suitable for a beginner and is fat quarter friendly, so it goes together without much fuss. Giddy up!
I enlarged our mustang applique and then used a very simple block design for the rest of the quilt to keep the focus on the horse. Appliqued stars on each of the pieced blocks add sparkle. The fabrics were all rounded up from our stashes, except the binding and back.
I quilted it with white thread and a ton of help from Rosie, Susan’s Gammill quilting frame, using a stars and loops design. Here’s Rosie in action-
“Ride ‘Em Cowboy” is available from Ms P’s Pattern Shop. (Yee haw!)
- Finished size = 36″ x 48″
- Pattern includes applique layout guide and individual pieces
- $12 USD
Believe it or not, I’m attending another baby shower for Cade (another one of Nathan’s high school friends) and his fiance Chrisann this coming Saturday! Their little boy will be called Cai. You’ll never guess the gift that I’m giving. . . No photos yet; I’ll share the new design soon!
Thanks SO much for stopping by today! Do you have a “go-to” gift for baby showers? Do tell! We’d love to read about it in the comments; it makes our day. Don’t forget to mosey on over to the rest of today’s bloggers and see what they’re sharing.
Happy quilting,
Sharon & Susan
