Hi Quilting Friends,
That was fun! April has been a whirlwind of activity, most of it NOT in the sewing studio, and that’s OK by me. What have I been up to, you ask?
Here are a few photos of the highlights-
We celebrated our oldest son’s birthday on the 3rd. Mr. Fix-It, Astrid, Freya, and I took a road trip to Waco to view the solar eclipse on the 8th, and met up with my Dad and youngest brother (from Montana). Mr. Fix-It’s brother and his wife came for a weekend visit (from Montana), so we showed them around Houston and spent time with the family (pizza and game night). I attended two baby showers for two friends of our younger son, as well as a retirement banquet for me. Whew! I didn’t find a lot of time for sewing this month, but I managed to meet the baby quilt deadlines.
As you already know, sometimes life gets crazy / busy, and it’s not always easy to find the time to “play” in the sewing studio, but that’s perfectly fine. Those UFOs from your PHD list will still be waiting when peace and quiet return. Don’t get stressed; pace yourself, go with the flow, and enjoy life. Squeeze in a tiny bit of stitching time between activities and visitors, and let it be enough.
And here’s my April PHD update-
Project #5- “April Showers” Challenge Project
Ta-done! Here’s a photo of the finished quilt-
Read more about “Ride ‘Em Cowboy” on my “April Showers” post. The pattern is available to purchase HERE.
Project #8- Mint & Chocolate Batik Quilt
I made two more blocks in April, bringing my total so far to 24. I can’t highlight anything on my PHD task list for this project yet, but some progress was made.
Project #9- FPP Vehicles from Scraps
My “One Monthly Goal” for May is to create at least two new FPP vehicle designs and then sew them with my scraps & stash, hopefully in time to share during the “On the Road Again” Sew It Show It Challenge. (Fingers are crossed for a smooth ride until the end of this academic year so I’ll have sufficient time for this goal.) Ready, Set, SEW!
Project #10- Orphan Block Quilt for Katniss
My “One Monthly Goal” for April was to finish up this quilt. Ta-done! You can read about it HERE.
New Projects
Here are the projects that I finished for the April RSC 2024 challenge, in YELLOW! Read about them HERE and HERE.
I’ve also finished making the “Enchanted Woodland Mushrooms” quilt for Cade and Chrisann’s baby GIRL. We used a neutral variegated thread with a leaf and curl quilting design. Here’s a photo of the quilt-
And of the parents-to-be, who clearly loved their quilt –
The baby will arrive in late June, but the pattern for the quilt will be available soon!
PHD Progress
Here’s my updated project tracker for April –
Here’s my updated PHD tracker for April-
In case you’re wondering, I have 31 days (22 school days) until summer break and retirement. I’m sure that it will zoom past!
How is your PHD list coming along? Share your progress, and link up with PHD in 2024! It makes our day to hear from you.
Happy quilting,
Sharon
Sometimes we need time away from the studio!! Your list is coming right along- only five left for the year…and it’s only April!! Well, at least for one today! LOL

Congratulations on your retirement. There will be much more time for stitching once you get there. We were just northeast of Waco for the eclipse. After checking traffic reports, we took the back roads back to College Station and even those in places were backed up. The Woodland Mushrooms quilt is really cute. Happy stitching in May.

Thanks Kate! I’m counting it down until retirement at this point. 😁 I think that it took at least an hour longer to drive home from Waco compared to the time it took to get there, but I’m so glad that we went! Ms P Designs USA
