2025 Q2 Check In

Hi Quilting Friends,

I can’t believe that the first half of 2025 is in the books! It has been a busy, productive, and fun year so far. Today I’m sharing my second quarter progress toward goals for 2025.  Many thanks to Yvonne @ quilting jetgirl for hosting. Here goes!

My Goals for 2025

Goal 1- Play With Toys

My goal is to choose two toys, play with them, and then post about my projects.

Update- Significant progress during Q2

Toy #1:

I’ve started creating an Autumn quilt using the hand-dyed fabric bundles of fat eights and fat quarters that I’ve had in my studio for several years, along with a gorgeous print from my stash.

The throw has applique blocks like these-

The quilt top is complete, and I’m taking a short pause while I decide how I want to quilt it.  Here’s a sneaky peek (pardon the dark photo, it was raining so I was in the studio for photography)–

Toy #2:

I used several pieces from this 10″ square collection to make a table topper for Spring. Read more about it HERE, and purchase the pattern HERE.

Goal 2- Play With Scraps

My goal is to use scraps to create at least twelve scrappy projects, and then to write blog posts about each of my creations.

Update – Progressing ahead of schedule

I completed 4 scrappy projects during Q2, bringing my 2025 total to 9 projects.  I will most likely exceed my “twelve scrappy projects” goal, since I have at least three more scrappy projects on my “to do” list at this time. Are the scrap baskets looking diminished? Hardly! Perhaps I need to plan for some larger scrappy projects in my future. . .

Goal 3- Play With UFOs

My goal is to finish “Lone Star” and also to take “Star Party” across the finish line this year.

Update- Minimal progress during Q2.

“Star Party” wrapped up during Q1. 🌟

“Lone Star” is progressing very slowly. I’ve finished hand-quilting six squares and started stitching a seventh square (out of eight total squares around the central star). The quilt also has eight triangles around the edges, as well as corners that are made up of three squares each.

Katniss “helps” me every time I leave the quilt out and ready to stitch, and she looks too comfortable to disturb her. At this rate it may be 2027 before I finish, unless I pick up the pace.

Hand-quilting seems to be a rainy-day, hot-weather, or cool-weather activity for me, and the days (at least through mid-June) have been too pleasant to spend my time inside.  Now that the summer heat has arrived, I may hunker down in the AC and stitch while I watch movies.  Sounds like a lovely way to while away an afternoon. 😊

I will begin to set smaller short-term goals for specific parts of this project to help me with motivation during Q3 and Q4. I still believe that I can finish “Lone Star” this year; I just need to sit still and do it.

Goal 4- Play With Online Friends

My goal is to continue to participate in several regularly-scheduled activities, including-

Goal 5 – Play with Others (In Person)

My “new” goal for 2025 is to be deliberately social, aiming for an average of one “social interaction” per week. (I am usually content to stay at home and amuse myself, but I keep hearing that social interactions are important for both mental and physical well-being. And so. . .)

Update- Progress is exceeding my goal.

According to my social calendar, I have participated in 28 social activities in the 13 weeks this quarter.

Our son was married in Aruba on April 26, so I had loads of activities going on during the destination wedding trip. (Aren’t they beautiful! And the sky really was that color.)

Here’s a list of some of the things I’ve done during Q2-

• Various Mother of the Groom duties
• Visited beaches, lighthouse, rock formations, & historic sites in Aruba
• Rode on a UTV in Aruba, with Mr. Fix-It driving
• Sailed on a catamaran, with stops for snorkeling & swimming, in Aruba
• Went dancing at the resort in Aruba
• Visited a whiskey distillery in Bryan, TX
• Visited a lavender farm in Chappel Hill, TX
• Mothers’ Day lunch with family in Round Rock,TX
• Attended a 1-year-old birthday party for a friends’ grandson
• Lunches, dinners, and game nights with friends
• Book club meetings
• Father’s Day lunch with family in Shiner, TX
• Impromptu pool party at Susan’s house
