One Monthly Goal: June

Hi Quilting Friends,

My “One Monthly Goal” for June was to make the “Honey Bee Bag” for my favorite daughter-in-law. Gaby’s birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks, and this will be her gift. Here they are on their wedding day, last April in Aruba.

And here’s the finished bag! It is larger than I thought it would be; more of a tote bag than a handbag, but it’s gorgeous and I’m confident that she will appreciate it.

The kit was a gift from my friend, and I’m sure that Gaby will like the bag since she suggested that I acquire the kit for my stash.

The piecing for the main body of the bag was somewhat fussy, with small pieces and lots of seams to match. I admit that I spent quite a bit of time with “Jack the Seam Ripper”, but it was worth taking my time to ensure that the bag looks good.

There was also a significant amount of hand work involved in making this bag. I embroidered a honey bee on one hexagon (SO cute!) and I added the (optional) French knots on the corners of each triangle. All of the inside seams are enclosed with bias binding to match the bag lining, also hand stitched to finish. I opted for the rolled handles, even though this choice involved more hand-stitching. I had never made a rolled handle before this project, and I’m happy with my choice.

I’m pleased with how the bag turned out, and I’m excited to give it to Gaby for her birthday!
