Hi Quilting Friends!
Welcome to Day 4 of our “12 Days of Christmas” series. We hope that you’re enjoying the projects that you’ve seen so far.
Today’s project is an adorable little tea cozy, featuring our Ugly Sweater Contest moose! Isn’t this sweater amazing!

I used this great tea cozy pattern from Sew4Home because I wanted to add my moose applique to the center panel. I chose a charm pack of Christmas fabric from Benartex, Nancy Halvorson’s “Santa’s Here” collection, along with yardage of coordinating prints for the applique panel and lining, and some pretty red rickrack to use as trim.

I cut the center panel according the the pattern instructions, and finished the reindeer applique first. I also appliqued a cute pair of holly leaves to decorate the pocket of my tea cozy. I created patchwork panels for the sides of the front and the back by slicing eight of my charm squares in half and then sewing them together again into strips. I attached the pieced side panels to the center pieces, using some red jumbo rickrack in the seams. After the front and back pieces were prepared, I cut them out along with lining and insulating fleece. I followed the instructions in the pattern to finish up the tea cozy. Sew cute, and my tea stays piping hot for a long time!
I also made a little round trivet to use under the teapot, to keep it even cozier. I used a saucer for my pattern, and added a layer of Insul-brite to minimize heat transfer. A bit of rick-rack and spiral quilting finish it up nicely.

I haven’t entered an ugly sweater contest but I helped my son and daughter-in-law with their sweaters.

Love that Moose! As for the tea cozy, I got a free Christmas Charm Pack from my local quilt shop last week, and I have been wondering what to do with it – I might just steal your idea. Thanks for sharing (the reindeer cookies are too cute).
