Hi Quilting Friends,
Welcome to the “Hearts on Fire” blog hop, brought to us by our quilting friend Carol of “Just Let Me Quilt”. Thanks Carol!! The challenge for this blog hop was to create a project that features hearts that are NOT red. Blog hops are a fun way to find inspiration, so enjoy visiting the participating bloggers to check out their non-red heart projects. You’ll find the links at the end of this post!
Here at Ms P Designs, we tend to use hearts fairly frequently as a design motif. We love hearts, both pieced and appliqued. Here are some pictures of our projects past, each with at least one heart. We confess that a few of these hearts are red, but the majority of our hearts are non-red.
For today’s “Hearts on Fire” project, I decided to combine two of my favorite quilting things – scraps and foundation piecing – to make some pretty pieced hearts. Here’s a picture of the four heart blocks that I made:

My first step was to enlarge one of our previous foundation pieced heart block patterns, drawing a new heart piecing diagram at 7″ by 7″ for this project. I used 1.5″ wide scrap strips in pink, orange, yellow, and lime to make the hearts. Black fabric with small colorful dots from my stash worked well for the background and the narrow frame borders around the heart blocks. I love the contrast between black and bright!
So, what do you do with a set of non-red heart blocks? I made a set of four pretty place mats, with the colorful heart blocks as their focal point. Wouldn’t they be great for a special Valentine’s Day celebration!

I love it when a design comes together so seamlessly! I had all of the fabrics in my stash, including this great (wild!) heart print, bought on sale several years ago, for the back of the place mats. It was meant to be.

The pattern for the “Scrappy Hearts” place mat set is available in Ms P’s Pattern Shop.
Thanks for stopping by today! We’re SEW glad to have you here. Please leave a comment to make our day, and then keep reading to find the list of bloggers for today.
Happy quilting,
Sharon

Oh, I do like those. There’s a scrappy look and feel, but a little more organized than normal string blocks. It’s very pretty!

Your placemats look awesome in those fabrics and would make any table look incredible! I love the difference between black and bright colors. It reminds me of popular colors from the 60’s and 70’s with a bit of psychedelic style. Love it! Thanks for hopping with us and sharing your no-red hearts. xo
