Hi Quilting Friends,

Welcome to the “No Ring November” blog hop! A big “Thank You!” to our quilting friend, Carla, for organizing the event. This is going to be fun!

Drink coasters were originally invented in Germany by Friedrich Horn, around 1880. The original coasters were made of decorated cardboard and were intended to hold a decanter that “coasted” around the table, allowing dinner guests to serve their cold drinks and protecting the table top from unsightly rings. “Prost!” Let’s raise a glass to the lowly coaster, protector of our tables!

Susan has had lots of fun creating coasters for Autumn. Here’s the new coaster set, intended to protect her antique dining table when the family gathers for Thanksgiving dinner:

  2. I love all of your coasters! The detail is awesome and they are as cute as can be. I like using coasters and placemats to prevent rings and water marks on my tables. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Oh those are so cute. I will admit I use mug rugs, coasters, etc. My problem is when glasses sweat the mug rug gets damp, and it can still ruin a surface. Now I put a thick plastic sheet underneath to help prevent that from happening.

  9. These are so cute, Susan! I, too, like to protect my table by using coasters or mug rugs. I would be hard-pressed to pick a favorite, but if I had to, I think it would be the acorns,,,or the sunflower…or…

  36. The fall coasters are fabulous! I have lots of coasters for my tables, many of them featuring photos of places that we have been. I have also made plenty of quilted coasters/mug rugs but have mostly given them away.
