November PHD Update

Hi Quilting Friends,

Happy November! This has been a good month, starting out with our visit to the Houston International Quilt Festival. Susan and I enjoyed seeing the exhibits, visiting others who were enjoying the show, talking with the award-winning quilters, and browsing the vendor booths.

I flipped the switch during my trip to Quilt Festival and purchased a Bernina 770 QE Plus! I’m really excited to have “Princess Nina” in my quilting studio to assist me in my endeavors, although she hasn’t arrived yet. My more experienced Bernina 1530, “Queen Nina”, will enjoy her semi-retirement with my grateful thanks for her many years of dedicated service.

We spent a lovely 3-day weekend with our younger son, his girlfriend, and her family at their beach house in Port Aransas, TX. The weather wasn’t cooperating for a beach trip (rainy, windy, and cold all weekend), but we went out for a chilly walk on the jetty and again for a stroll around a local bird sanctuary. We had lots of fun indoors eating, visiting, and playing games together.

We hosted the family Thanksgiving feast at our house this year, with a delicious meal and games afterward.

Oh, and today is my birthday! I’m celebrating by going to work, teaching my classes, and later we’ll have dinner out at our favorite seafood restaurant with Susan and her husband.

PHD in 2022 Project List

Project #11: Aqua Sawtooth Star Project Bag
August RSC A by Sharon @ Ms P Designs USA

My “One Monthly Goal” for December is to finish my aqua project bag. I’m going to work with Princess Nina and practice my FMQ skills, once she gets here. She has a great big throat space and a stitch regulator to help me keep the quilting stitches even. (Excited to have this capability!) While we’re waiting for our new arrival, Queen Nina will graciously help me with some piecing. Ready, set, SEW!

Project #12: Sticks and Stones Quilt
Sticks and Stones by Sharon @ Ms P Designs USA

My “One Monthly Goal” for November was to finish quilting and binding the “Sticks and Stones” quilt. Ta-done! I really like the mix of colors from all of my little scraps. Here’s the photo finish-

New Projects

Susan and I spent some time browsing fabric at Quilt Festival since there are no quilt shops in Houston, LOL. We selected a lovely array of Christmas fabrics that I used to make “Celebrations”, the squirrel of a design that kept chittering at me in October. The top is pieced, quilted, and ready for binding, but I won’t share a photo today; you’ll need to come back on December 12 to see. (It is SO gorgeous, and I’m SO happy with the design!)

Ongoing Projects

We didn’t have a specific color challenge for November RSC, so I did my own thing with Brown and Tan scraps this month and sewed 30 more blocks for my Carolina Chain quilt in shades of brown and tan.

  1. Port Aransas is a cool place to visit. We would always stop there when we drove from Houston to Corpus Christi. Your Sticks and Stones project is so cool! Love the bright colors, what a great scrap buster.
