Hi Quilting Friends,
The Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for October is neutral colors in dark or light. Last week I shared a scrappy neutral zipper bag (HERE). This week I worked on the signature squares collection. My squares have black triangles attached to two corners, so that’s my neutral fabric. 😁
Signature Squares
I’m just not seeing that more neutrals will work in this mix, so I’ve opted to do my own thing with some transition scraps. By “transition” I mean fabrics that have more than one color, so they might be used as a transition between fabrics that present as a single color. I’m hoping that these squares will move the eyes from one area to another smoothly. We shall see!

It took longer than usual to choose my 20 squares for the October blocks, since I needed to look through all of the blocks from my previous sets as well as sift through all of my scrap boxes to avoid duplications. I finally selected 20 pieces that I think will work well.
Speaking of transitions, it finally feels like autumn has arrived in our area. The mornings and evenings are pleasantly cooler, so I’ve been taking my book outside to read while the dogs explore the yard. Here’s a little baked potato who is clearly enjoying her sunbathing time, which has been extended as the temperatures get cooler –

I would love to take a leisurely walk around the block or bike ride beside the bayou, but that’s not happening for a few more weeks. My foot feels almost normal, and that might not be a good thing because I’m tempted to be bad and not rest it like the doctor told me I must.
Thanks for stopping in today! Do you think that the transition fabrics will work out as I intended? What is your experience? I’d love to read your comments. Visit the links below for more quilting eye candy!
Happy quilting,
Sharon

That’s the cutest baked potato I’ve ever seen, Sharon! Pretty signature blocks, too. PLEASE do as your doc said. You won’t regret it when it’s all healed up and ready to go about normal activities. You don’t want to extend that down time by being too quick on the feet!

Thank you! I’m behaving myself, because I don’t want the healing clock to restart at zero. Have a nice weekend!

As bold as the fabrics you’ve already used are, I think the transition blocks will work out well. Since you selected your fabrics after looking at what you’ve already made, that will help them blend. We went from summer to autumn overnight it seems, from hot to cold in like 48 hours. Oh well, it’s a good thing I like sweater weather.

Love that sweet baked potato! I’ve got a kitty that loves to soak up some rays also! Hahaha! Great blocks and I think they should transition your RSC-colored blocks although, what do I know? I’ve never done that before! Lol! Have a great rest of your week and keep staying off that foot if that’s what the doctor ordered.

Thank you! Our other dog prefers to run the fence line and play with the neighbor dogs. I’m hoping these blocks will work out. I haven’t done a color wash quilt before, so this should be interesting.
