Hi Quilting Friends,
The Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for May is ORANGE. Last week I shared my set of 20 ORANGE Signature Blocks. Read more about it HERE.
Zipper Bags
Here’s my ORANGE zipper bag, size medium this time because I’ve used up most of the batting and backing scraps that I had on hand at the start of the year.

I decided to use as many of my 1.5″ and 2.5″ ORANGE strips as possible to make this project. I began by making some double 4-patch blocks. I ended up with six 4″ x 4″ blocks, and then I added additional squares to the piece to create panels for the front and back of the bag. I quilted the panels with a simple diagonal grid using pale yellow thread.
The lining is a piece of ORANGE print from my stash, and I used an ORANGE zipper from the set that I purchased in January.

I made a second medium bag this month, using a set of 2.5″ x 2.5″ squares that were a gift from Anna, my Comadre. There are a few ORANGE squares in the set, so I’m sharing it today.

The lining is a fun spatter print from my stash, and I used a navy zipper to complement the other fabrics.

I will admit that ORANGE adds a “zip” to everything around it, even though it isn’t normally my preferred color. My favorite planter so far this year features deep blue lobelia mingled with bright orange pansies. Both of these plants are happier when the temperatures are cool, so they probably won’t survive much longer now that the heat is on in Houston. I’ll just enjoy them while they last!

This evening we will attend the high school graduation ceremony for Susan’s grandson, Micah. The time has zipped by, and he has grown into a special young man. Of course, we haven’t grown older, not one little bit.
I hope that you’re having a wonderful May, filled with fun, flowers, celebrations, and stitching.
Happy quilting,
Sharon
